Bel"s New "Stretched" 1/4 Brick DC-DC Converter for Telecom Applications

Jersey City, NJ, August 22, 2005...Bel, a premier designer and manufacturer of modular non-isolated and isolated power dc-dc converters for high-speed networking, telecommunications, and computing applications, today announced the addition of the GALW9V647 450 W single output dc-dc converter to their Bel Power Inc. product line. This “stretched” ¼ brick converter, the newest member of the Sirius family of board mounted CoolConverter™ power modules, measures 1.45” x 4.25 x 0.95” including a built-in heatsink for improved thermal performance. The part’s open-frame, single-board integrated construction offers engineers and EOEMs the utmost in PCB space conservation, design flexibility, and manufacturing throughput. Microprocessor-controlled, the device boasts a proprietary single-stage power supply control, and architecture that uses synchronous rectification to achieve extremely high conversion efficiencies. Notably, the converter’s constant switching frequency enables very low common mode noise operation, and its circuitry provides very low ripple.
Highly applicable for employment in demanding telecom, networking, and wireless applications requiring high current, low voltage and fast transient-response times, Bel’s newest power module has an operating efficiency of 93.5% at full load, and 94.5% at half load. The dc-dc converter features a wide input voltage range from 36 to 75 VDC and a single isolated output of 9.6 VDC. Output current is rated up to 47 A, while line and load regulation is +/- 0.2% and 2% respectively. Setpoint accuracy is +/- 5%.
Offering full protection features, the GALW9V647 provides under voltage lockout with hysteresis to prevent false starting and stopping at low input voltages, and over temperature, over current and over voltage protection. The THT module also boasts output voltage trim adjustment, a two-stage input filter, and primary side on/off. It operates over a wide, ambient temperature range of –40° C to + 100° C, and carries a full set of international safely approvals, including EN60950 and UL/cUL60950.
