Signal to deploy state-of-the-art rooftop solar system at Inwood facility

INWOOD, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Signal Transformer, a division of Bel Fuse Inc. (NASDAQ: BELFA) (NASDAQ: BELFB), today announced the start of construction on a 129 kilowatt (kW) solar photovoltaic system to be installed at the Signal Transformer facility located in Inwood, New York. Signal Transformer is a premier manufacturer of transformers, chokes, and inductors, as well as custom and modified-standard products. Their parts are employed in a broad range of mission-critical applications worldwide.

Once completed, the rooftop solar energy system will produce the majority of Signal Transformer's annual electricity needs. The state-of-the art system will generate clean renewable energy onsite and will offset the equivalent of over 200,000 pounds of carbon each year.

"We are excited to announce the planned conversion of our Signal Transformer facility to solar power," said Sandy Axelrad, Signal Transformer's General Manager. "The decision to 'go solar' is a fine example of Bel's broad commitment to environmental sustainability." In addition to the Signal solar project, Bel's environmental initiatives include the use of alternative (greener) manufacturing methods and materials, as well as the elimination of lead and other banned substances from Bel's products.

Signal is partnering on the project with EnterSolar, a leading New-York based provider of commercial solar solutions. "EnterSolar is excited to be partnering with Bel on this significant project, and we applaud them for their continued efforts to improve Bel's environmental footprint," said Paul Ahern, EnterSolar's President. "In addition to the sustainability benefits, Signal Transformer will enjoy significant savings on their ongoing electricity costs."

The Signal Transformer solar project, scheduled for completion in August 2013, is being facilitated by Governor Cuomo's NY-Sun Initiative, a dynamic public-private partnership which is aggressively expanding the deployment of solar photovoltaic systems across the Empire State.
